Outdoor Learning Coordinator

The Boathouse Youth (BHY) is launching a new Silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programme alongside an expanded Outdoor Learning offer.

We are looking for an energetic, outdoors-driven Programme Coordinator to lead the DofE programme while supporting the development of outdoor learning across our wider provision. This is a unique opportunity to shape a flagship programme that connects young people to nature, builds life skills, and creates lasting experiences.

Role Purpose

To design and deliver a high-quality, youth-led Outdoor Learning Offer that builds confidence, resilience, environmental awareness and life skills.

This role combines:

  • Coordination of DofE Programme
  • Leading on the Outdoor Learning Offer across the Organisation

You will be the driving force behind the Outdoor Learning Offer helping to create meaningful outdoor experiences that support young people to explore, learn and grow within a youth work setting.

You will lead and enhance outdoor learning offer across The BHY provision, including:

  • Residentials (e.g. Lake District trips)
  • Bushcraft, navigation and outdoor cooking
  • Nature-based activities (forests, farms, trails)
  • Environmental and sustainability projects
  • Outdoor experiences for younger groups and SEND provision
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award

Working alongside the wider team, you will strengthen young people’s connection to nature, sustainability and their local environment.

This role will:

  • Motivate young people to learn and develop in order to improve future life chances using outdoor experiences.
  • Enable young people to achieve Nationally Recognised Awards
  • Build confidence, resilience and independence
  • Create accessible opportunities for young people across the Fylde Coast

Someone who is:

  • Passionate about working alongside young people and creating innovative outdoor opportunities together.
  • Enthusiastic about the outdoors and experiential learning
  • Organised and able to manage a programme independently
  • Confident delivering group session.
  • Energetic, positive and a strong role model
  • Has a full clean driving license

Experience of Expeditions, Outdoor Learning and/or Outdoor Pursuits for example DofE is essential.

A recognised outdoor qualification (e.g. Lowland Leader, Hill & Moorland Leader, Mountain Leader, or equivalent) is highly desirable. Or willingness to develop new skills.

A flexible approach to work and a willingness to work throughout the year including weekends and evenings.

The Boathouse Youth is committed to the effective Safeguarding of its Young People. This post will be recruited in accordance with the NSPCC’s guidance on safer recruitment. This includes a thorough interview, scrutiny of former employment, a requirement for references and an Enhanced DBS check.
