Give yourself today…

Volunteering at The Boathouse Youth is a great way to get involved with the improvement of your local a community – a task that is everyone’s responsibility. You will boost your skill sets, meet new people, have fun and – most importantly – make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Blackpool.

Volunteers are essential to our charity – without the skills, compassion and time that they give we simply would not be able to provide the services that we do. We’d love you to become part of our story.

To be a volunteer at The BHY you must be Aged 18 or over. However, those in Year 11 to Age 17 are able to apply to become Young Leaders by joining our BHY Academy.

What you will be doing…

There are so many opportunities to be involved with at The Boathouse Youth. We want to hear from you whether you need to learn new skills, develop existing ones or have expertise that you can teach to others.

Please see some examples below of roles that you could fulfil or jobs that you could be doing. If you are interested in a role working directly with our young people then it is likely you will be required to commit to at least one evening each week (between 2-4 hours).

If you’re not sure exactly where you could fit into our organisation then get in touch and we’ll have an informal chat! All volunteering opportunities are subject to a DBS check.

Andrea Hargreaves

The best things about being a volunteer are seeing the children get opportunities they wouldn’t usually because of their background; seeing them gain confidence and build friendships and having a safer place to go so they aren’t wandering the streets and causing trouble because they are bored. I have also made new friends and the residentials are awesome!

Volunteering for The Boathouse Youth has enabled me to work with children in different environments from the Youth Centre to Detached & Outreach as well as Residential stays. Witnessing the hard work and commitment that the staff and volunteers put in pays off when you see children and young people succeed, develop and progress through our help, support and guidance. It is one of the most rewarding feelings to know that you have made a difference in their lives. I would highly recommend volunteering for BHY it is an amazing journey and opportunity you do not want to miss.
