The Senior Leadership Team

Laurance Hancock

Laurance Hancock

Chief Executive Officer

Laurance’s role is to oversee the strategic direction and operation of The Boathouse Youth – and what an operation it is! This includes income generation, budgeting and spending in addition to being actively involved in delivery. Two days are never the same at The Boathouse Youth and this certainly keeps Laurance on his toes. One day he could be writing funding bids and dealing with financial matters and the next he could be delivering a session, driving a Canal Boat full of young people or playing Dodgeball! Laurance is also a First Aid Instructor and teaches the majority of courses delivered by Boathouse First Aid Training.

Laurance grew up on the Wirral Peninsular in Merseyside. When Laurance left the Mosslands School in Wallasey at 18 he went straight to university to study English with a view of becoming a teacher. During his time at university Laurance was a Sailing Instructor, Church Youth Leader and a Cub Scout Leader. Following his graduation Laurance decided he wanted to work with young people in a less formal setting than a school and the opportunity to move to Blackpool arose. In 2009 Laurance started The Boathouse Youth and has never looked back.

Sarah is a Blackpool girl and following her up-bringing on Grange Park has a great understanding of young people and the factors that affect their development into adults.

Having recently completed a degree in Education & Professional Studies at the University of Central Lancashire she is fully understanding of the ways in which young people learn and develop and, therefore, qualified to oversee the implementation of programmes which are designed to informally teach young people a variety of skills essential to us achieving our aims.

Sarah started working at The Boathouse Youth in 2015 as a volunteer whilst studying. In early 2016 she applied for a paid job within the organisation a Youth Worker and in September 2016 received a promotion to her current position.

As the Resources & Logistics Manager, Benjamin is entirely responsible for all of The BHY’s assets. This includes our buildings, our vehicles and our equipment. He also oversees the generic management of Health & Safety within the organisation. Benjamin is also the Centre Coordinator for our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme and enjoys taking part in regular expeditions.

Benjamin attended King Edward and Queen Mary School in Lytham before heading to University to study Youth Work and Public Services. Benjamin absolutely loves cycling and can often be seen in the Blackpool area peddling around on one of his many bikes.
